During his time in France, he met my family, we are missing some recipes really love that we came home. After some experimentation and a few boo-boos, the success is mine!
Our favorite is the first pain au chocolat. About translated chocolate bread, and is a popular breakfast food in France. It 'also very popular as a snack after school. This food is so popular that they sell them in plastic bags in packs of 8 or 10, just like our hot dogs! Now holdbecause the French used to do a sort of brioche dough, requires hours of hand. I found the two methods give me a reasonable substitute for loving my family.
First and easiest is probably the version crescent roll. I opened a can of rolls, but otherwise the dough into two rectangles, triangles together. I press the seams with a moistened finger to seal together. You can make 8 rolls, so it makes 4 French pastries. I have alarge family, so I need 4 cans. If you have a small family, you can do with two doses. Then take your favorite candy bar level (as is used for s'mores) and cut the bars into strips parallel to the short side, about 1 / 4 "wide. Insert a rectangle of dough and place two stripes on chocolate, set in end of each short enough so that you take each end and fold over the chocolate. The edges of the two folds should be in the middle of the pasta to the touch. If youhave folded the dough, turn it seam down and go to the next. When complete, cook pasta as the package. When they're done, you pop out of the oven and serve hot with each other. Can dark chocolate or milk, but the use of traditional French dark chocolate than we do.
The second method is to buy frozen puff pastry squares and follow the instructions above. These are used little 'closer to the real nature of bread doughFrance, but a bit 'more expensive to make.
Both methods were able to replace a line of chocolate chips for the stripes of chocolate, if you do not have chocolate bars at your fingertips. Since all melts in the end, really does not matter.
Another favorite food from France is raclette. Now, the raclette cheese, but it is also a cooking method, from the bottom of the same region of Europe as a cheese fondue. Raclette is a semi-hard cheese, with the Swiss version is a bit 'more difficult(And tastier, in my opinion) that the French variety. Or a pinch at work. You can find buy raclette cheese in most supermarkets and gourmet shops and food stores. Raclette with a special grill that has a flat top and a bottom surface with small bowls. The cheese is put in the drawers and put on grill to melt. Raclette grills can be purchased at specialty stores for a truly "special", but T-Fal makes an electric version that I boughtabout $ 40. It is a tabletop device.
Raclette is traditionally done by:
Choose your favorite meat, like salami, ham priscuitto, olive bread, and so on a plate in rows or columns that appeal to your eye. Slice (or use the market) in the cheese 1 / 3 to 1 / 2 "thick slices that fit in the bar of cheese. Arrange the slices on the meat trade.
Then, bake or boil whole potatoes. I bake here in the U.S., but wereoften cooked in Europe. While cooking, do a little 'salad of mixed salad or shred some carrots in a pile on each plate, or slices of cucumber, and what you like. Open a glass pickles (these are little dill pickle love French style). You can buy in most supermarkets, but if you do not, replace their pickles. This method of cooking is all the fun, not whether it is mechanically correct.
If the potatoes are done!put one on each plate with some of your veggie or salad and cucumber garnish edible. Turn on the grill and heat it for few minutes while you get the drinks ready. Each person uses their own tray with cheese that melts and then poured over their potatoes. My children want their grilled meat on top, but I prefer that I am still cold. It's up to you!. Eating and laughing and talking while the meat, potatoes and cheese. You can not break this up! Sausage, cheese, french fries, simple and wonderful.
The best thing about raclette (besides the fun time of quality) is the purge. In my house there is rarely anything left to eat, and usually not even the left wing overs. There are plates, forks, a few cheese trays, and glasses. Do not place hot pots with casinos in bad taste, not oven pans, and almost anything can pop in the dishwasher.
Well, this is not the cheapest meal you can do, but we appreciate it so much that we do every two months. If you like fondue, you are sure to love it. If you've never had fondue, give this a try. I bet you fall in love with them, too.
A popular drink of us adults of the church. This is a drink, or drink before dinner. It 's easy and absolutely delicious, and if you are not wine drinkers. Here's the recipe:
Chardonnay (Aligote traditional French, but you can usually get it here)
Creme de Cassis
Chill the wine. In a glass of wine, put a little 'creamde Cassis 3 or 4 parts wine. I say 3 or 4, because the quality of Creme de Cassis, depends on what you really need to make the drink. If done correctly, the wine tastes slightly sweeter than normal.
Variations:
Application: Creme de Framboise
Creme de Mure
Creme de Myrtille
instead of Creme de Cassis.
OR:
Instead of using Chardonnay Champagne for a royal church.
Framboise is my favorite, but I like them all! L 'Creams can be added to red wines, including, but not really traditional.
These are just some of the things we found we did not want simply because we came home without, so we have incorporated into our lives here in the U.S.. I hope you enjoy them as much as us.
